Hotel Skatta is located in a beautiful, old area of Helsinki near the city centre. The sea surrounds this area of decorative early 20th century buildings, the cozy sound of tram #4 mingles with the chatter of seagulls and right outside the hotel float the big Stockholm boats, always arriving or leaving. Right behind the corner the majestic orthodox cathedral Uspenski rises, proud, high, and for a moment you think you're in St Petersburg. Winds bring salty sea scents, the air is crisp and fresh.
The history of Hotel Skatta goes back to the early 1900's, when a Sailors' Home was established at Linnankatu 3. Back then the hotel building was just as beautiful as its neighbours. However, during World War II the building was destroyed. The new building was not as glorious as its predecessor, but it served its function. The Hotel Skatta of today was established in 1991, and the history as a Sailors' Home can still be seen: a rather high percentage of our guests are sailors.

During the years we've had guests from all over the world, from almost 150 countries. Many of our guests are old friends who visit us again and again, remembering the warm athmosphere and the friendly service.

The name "Skatta" comes from the slang word for Skatudden, Katajanokka, where our hotel is located.
